Montessori Preschools in Indianapolis

If you are unfamiliar with the Montessori Method of education, do not let it sway you from exploring our schools. Following is some background that you will find useful. In many parts of the world, Montessori education has been practiced for over 100 years. Traditional educational environments are incorporating aspects of the Montessori way of teaching because of its proven success and growing popularity. Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian educator, developed a child-focused approach which allows each child to progress at their own natural pace based on scientific observation of children from birth on up.

Classrooms typically include a mixed age range. Younger children observe and learn from the older children in this environment. The older children benefit by learning leadership skills while guiding those younger than themselves. Classrooms allow children to move about freely. Materials and work provided are based on age appropriate interests. A hands-on experience stimulate creativity and natural learning progression as opposed to direct, seated instruction for the class as a whole. Montessori education is designed to foster self-paced learning and build on a child’s natural preferences. This results in increased independence and curiosity. We find this to be especially true in our Montessori preschools in Indianapolis.

When You Visit Our Indianapolis Preschool

While traditional preschools in Indianapolis may differ, you’ll find a tour of our Indianapolis preschool will begin with our staff will taking you and your child into the classroom for a firsthand experience. As a parent, this allows you to observe the set-up of the classroom and visualize your child learning among their peers. Notice how everything, including furniture, is child sized. This allows the children easier access to learning, encourages independence and builds confidence as they discover that they can manipulate the environment. The surroundings consist of neutral walls, lack of clutter, and organization  which all contribute to a more peaceful and calm setting in which children thrive. Natural materials are often introduced and used in the learning process. Watch as the teachers interact almost magically with multiple children simultaneously while gently guiding and encouraging them individually.

You’ll observe how even the youngest of children are engaged. Now, notice your child. Do they immediately interacting with other children or prefer first to observe all that is happening around them? Does another child try to engage with yours?  Do they take an interest in a particular work on a shelf and go for it? Perhaps they show curiosity while remaining cautious. Our MMIA preschool teachers will take the time to understand and work within your child’s personality so optimal learning can occur while still having fun.

How does your child respond in our classroom compared to other preschools in Indianapolis? We understand that tours only provide a limited screenshot. To give you and your little one an opportunity for more exploration, MMIA offers a free trial to prospective new families.

What to Expect During Your Free Indianapolis Preschool Trial

On their first day at our Indianapolis Maria Montessori International Academy, your child may be full of excitement, anxiety and anticipation. There are several ways that you can help prepare your child.  Let your child feel excited about their new journey by picking out their favorite outfit, packing their favorite foods for lunch, and reminding them about their previous visit. Please be sure that your child has a lunchbox, indoor slippers, a change of clothing, and crib size sheet in the event that your child naps. A lovey can even be helpful in the transition at drop-off. Get your child excited about having their own special cubby to store all of their belongings.

Your child will be met first with a warm welcoming smile and heart felt greeting so they know that he/she is wanted. Next, your little one will be shown where their cubby is, where to place outdoor shoes, put lunch boxes, and find the restrooms. While your child is looking around the classroom and meeting new friends, their Montessori teacher will speak with the you to address any questions or concerns you may have. It is important for your child not to feel your angst, and we find that it is often best for parents to give quick goodbye hugs and leave confidently. This shows your little one that you are confident about leaving them and their first day at school. At the end of the day, parents will have an opportunity to connect with the teachers to discuss their child’s day.

If your child cries, the Montessori guide will sooth your child by trying to engage them in areas of interests in the classroom or will invite them to enjoy the playground outside. With fresh air and new friends, outdoor playtime usually provides a sense of happiness and creates natural endorphins. Soon the student will have made connections with new friends. Parents are welcome to use our observation rooms to view their child within their new classrooms as the child settles in.   The Montessori teacher will make it a point to connect with your child even if it means being attached to the teacher.

The older and mature Montessori students will follow the teachers lead. They will shower your child with affection, kindness, and friendship to welcome them to their new class. Before you know it, your child is blossoming in the classroom

What Your Children Will Gain with at Our Preschools in Indianapolis Vs. Traditional Childcare

Any Indianapolis childcare can provide you with a caretaker for your child during the day.  They may have child sized furniture, wood toys, and even a block of free time for the kids to independently play. Much more is required though to successfully foster a child’s natural love for learning. Most importantly, ask yourself: “do the teachers have the passion, personality, support, and experience (backed by education and training) needed to help shape your child’s learning footprint?” At Maria Montessori International Academy, all our lead teachers have dual degrees along with specialized Montessori training, equivalent to that of a Master’s Degree. Continued training and education each year to further cultivate their teaching skills. Many of our teachers have their own children and understand personally the needs of a child when it is away from their parents.

Here, children build a strong, solid foundation for their education and social development. They are exposed to music, other cultures, and become immersed in multi-languages. They gain knowledge through self-guided exploration and learn practical life skills through activities they see as play. Their self-confidence grows as well as their independence. Leadership skills along with compassion and empathy for others are developed. MMIA is not just another preschool in Indianapolis; this carefully developed learning atmosphere allows you the satisfaction of knowing that your child is receiving so much more than just their basic needs.
